If the waiting period and lay days of the Xcel Pro is bringing you down, try turning your attention to the 2008 Movistar Classic Mancora Peru. Presented by Rip Curl, the Movistar is the third to last event on the Women’s World Tour. The contest got off to a great start on Monday, running in clean, rippable, waist to chest high lefts, straight through Round 3.
While the men’s World Tour crowned its 2008 Champion in Mundaka, the Women have yet to lock in a winner for the year. Sofia Mulanovich (PER) is currently leading the Women’s ratings, jumping ahead of reigning World Champion, Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) by almost 500 points after Steph took a 9th place in the Beachley Classic in Sydney in October. Stephanie will be out to win the contest as she is the defending event champion, defending Women’s World Champion, and eager to get back into the pole position prior to the Hawaiian leg of the Women’s World Tour. Sofia will be out to maintain her lead and win before her loyal Peruvian fans.
Though the waiting period for the event runs now through November 8th, there are only six heats left in the run-up to the Final. When competition resumes, we’ll see the start of the Quarterfinals, with event likely to wrap up in just hours. Tune in to the event website for all the action.
