Yadin Nicols slays giants! Day 3 of the Boost Mobile Pro went down in fun, chest to head high surf on another sunny California day. Round 2 was completed, along with the first four heats of Round 3. Let’s first focus on who was eliminated. In the first heat of the day, wildcard Yadin Nicol completely spanked three time world champ, Andy Irons with a score of 16.67 to 10.33. What the hell is happening to Andy? He’s lost his tour winning drive, and allowed young wildcards to oust him two years in a row now at Trestles. After placing 2nd in Indo, Fred Pattachia was shown the door with an equal 33rd by Heitor Alves. 3rd place Indo finisher, Tiago Pires was served up his fourth 33rd of the year by an in-form Taylor Knox. Damien Hobgood was shut down by rookie, Jordy Smith, who is finally beginning to show why his sponsors are paying him so friggin much. Damo might want to start racking up some points on the WQS, as his number slowly slides down the list. Pancho Sullivan still hasn’t found his groove this year, and was taken out by mid-packer, Kieren Perrow. Other Round 2 losers included Ben Dunn, Mick Campbell, Tom Whitaker, Dayyan Neve, Adrian Buchan, and regular back of packers, Aritz Aranburu, Jihad Khodr and Ricky Basnett. Round 3 showed some very big performances and impressive results, with big wins going to Bede Durbidge, Luke Steadman, Dane Reynolds and Joel Parkinson. Taking equal 17ths in Round 3 were Travis Logie, Miky Picon, Dean Morrison and Daniel Ross. The contest is scheduled to continue on Wednesday, with Bobby Martinez and Ben Bourgeois kicking off the first heat of the day. Three heats later, we’ll see 8 time World Champ Kelly Slater face off against former World Champ Sunny Garcia. It will be a heat for the ages! Stay tuned for all the action…
