The 2008 Quiksilver Pro kicks off this morning in what should be the first day of competition, if the waves and winds cooperate. Friday is showing small, inconsistent, choppy surf, but Saturday is calling for sizeable, clean surf that should be quite contestable. Get your fantasy surfer picks and trades done before the contest started. Just looking at the past 5 years, Andy Irons won 2003, 2004 and 2005, Joel Parkinson won in 2006, and Mick Fanning won in 2007. Though Kelly hasn’t won an event in France since the 90s, I wouldn’t count him out for a win. I’m getting conflicting reports on the wildcards, but that should be settled shortly. I know that local Fronchies, Tim Boal and Joan Duru will be in the event, but not sure who else will be slotted in. Keep your eyes on these two, as well as Jeremy Flores and Miky Picon. These four Fronchies might do quite a bit of damage against the top U.S. and Aussie guys. Injury wildcard, Nic Muscroft will be filling in for an injured Dean Morrison. Let’s hope conditions come together to let them get this off the ground today. Otherwise, Saturday should make for an exciting day of surfing. Tune in:
