After wrapping up the women’s Reef Hawaiian Pro Thursday morning in clean, rippable conditions, the men’s event was a go, running through the first 13 heats of Round 4. A storm front passed through later in the afternoon, bringing strong onshore winds which battered and chopped up the surf during the last few heats of the day. Thursday saw a strong display of high performance surfing, with the guys turning the chest to head high Haleiwa walls into a Lowers style event.
Advancing through the field of four man heats in Round 4 were World Tour surfers, Pancho Sullivan (HAW), Nic Muscroft (AUS), Jay Thompson (AUS), Taylor Knox (USA), Tim Reyes (USA), Jihad Khodr (BRA), Taj Burrow (AUS), Roy Powers (HAW), Bede Durbidge (AUS), Kai Otton (AUS) and Kieren Perrow (AUS); former World Tour surfers, Greg Emslie (ZAF), Sunny Garcia (HAW) and Gabe Kling (USA); local Hawaiians, Tonino Benson (HAW), Kekoa Cazimero (HAW), Kekoa Bacalso (HAW), Joel Centeio (HAW), Evan Valiere (HAW), Dusty Payne (HAW), Makua Rothman (HAW), Dustin Cuizon (HAW) and Dustin Barca (HAW); and top WQS surfers, Brett Simpson (USA), Michel Bourez (PYF), and Adam Melling (AUS).
Bowing out in Round 4 were World Tour surfers, Andy Irons (HAW), Fred Patacchia (HAW), Daniel Ross (AUS), CJ Hobgood (USA), Luke Munro (AUS), Luke Stedman (AUS), Tom Whitaker (AUS) and Jeremy Flores (FRA); former World Tour surfers, David Weare (ZAF), Yuri Sodre (BRA), Jarrad Howse (AUS), Chris Davidson (AUS), Josh Kerr (AUS) and Nathan Hedge (AUS); local Hawaiians, TJ Barron (HAW), Sean Moody (HAW), Flynn Novak (HAW) and Charlie Carroll (HAW), and top WQS surfers, Marcelo Trekinho (BRA), Mike Losness (USA), Hizunome Bettero (BRA), Peter Mel (USA), Nathaniel Curran (USA), Marlon Lipke (DEU), Calpinha Miranda (BRA) and Yadin Nicol (AUS).
