Surfing Alaska’s Giant 23 Foot Waves

We learn from the Alaska Daily News that Aussie filmmaker Tony Harrington, hot surfing chick Maya Gabeira and Hawaiian charger Jamie Sterling (among others) showed up in late November in Alaska to surf a big swell that was coming through. Think 20 foot waves. Indeed, as shown here, this may have been the largest wave ever surfed in Alaska. The report explains that Gabeira suffered from hypothermia – the air was at freezing and the water temps were only about 40 degrees. Cold, but worth it for some Maverick’s like bombs that came through. Read the full report here.
