How to Duck Dive

A pretty good primer on duck diving in this video. The reason this technique is the right technique is because many surfers will use their shin or their knee to try and get the tail of their board under water, and it just isn’t enough. Here, the surfer pushes the board deep, then creates enough space for himself to step on the tail of the board, and dive under. A little flexibility in the back helps you get right under the wave, and keep paddling on your way. Unfortunately, the music in this vid leaves a lot to be desired. Duck diving a surfboard is not the same thing as square dancing. Yeehaw!

using your knee when you duckdive sucks…

gives great big pressure dings in the middle of the board.
