SDP Surfing – the iPhone surfing game revisited

A week and a half after my initial review of the iPhone surfing game, SDP Surfing, I am ready to eat my words.  While my earlier criticism was spot on, the Kiwi creators of this little game have apparently been listening.  That, or else they were as frustrated with the gameplay as I was.  In any event, they have made marked improvements to the gameplay, raising the game’s playability from nil, to one hell of a fun little time waster.

The game in its previous form featured gameplay that relied on the physics of the iPhone’s built in accelerometer, making for game play that was faulty, frustrating and just plain painful.  In its current updated form, the game relies on on-screen finger taps to turn right and left, tapping on the corresponding screen side, and a finger tap on the bottom of the screen to stall in the barrel.  The change of controls made gameplay a thousand times better.  Within a few short minutes I was logging major tube time and punting huge, oversized airs.  It’s seriously like a different game.

Check the game out today in the iPhone or iTunes app store, where you can purchase it for $1.99.  SDP Surfing is now well worth more than the low asking price.  Great update guys!
