Oakley Pro Junior – recap

The second Junior event of the 2009 season is complete and Owen Wright has taken another victory.  Two contests, two wins.  Owen has been following the Kelly Slater approach to competition, with a take no prisoners attitude to contests this season.

During another sunny day on North Stradbroke Island in Queensland, Australia, Owen Wright surfed his way to victory over runner-up, Jadson Andre (BRA), in punchy head high peaks, in what was an extremely close Final heat.  On his way to victory, Owen convincingly came in first in every one of his heats, starting with his Round 2 win over fellow Aussies, Shaun Howe, Tom Pringle and Adam Morris.  In Round 3, he topped fellow Aussies, James Woods and Mitch Crews, and Fronchie, Marc Lacomare.  In Round 4, he topped Jack Freestone (AUS), and beat Shaun Howe for a second second time, this time showing Shaun the exit door.  Owen took down James Woods in Round 5 and Jack Freestone in the Quarterfinals, defeating both for a second and final time.  In the Semifinals, he took down an in-form fellow Aussie, Sam Wrench.

Next up for the lads is the Billabong Pro Junior, kicking off on Wednesday, February 11th in Coff’s Harbor, New South Wales, Australia.  All eyes are sure to be on Owen Wright, to see if he can pull off yet another win.
