Despite news suggesting the imminent collapse of Mexico’s government and economy, the Baja city of Rosarito Beach has secured a new event for the 2009 ASP World Qualifying Series lineup. Plagued by massive negative media portrayals in recent years and months, Rosarito Beach is working hard to assure the world that it is not the lawless land of regional drug wars that the media makes it out to be. Hopefully a successful professional surf contest can help dispel some of those more nasty myths.
Following just days after the finale of the 2 Star WQS, Van’s Pier Classic presented by Jack’s Surfboards, the 1 Star, Rosarito Beach Pro is scheduled to run from April 3rd to April 5th. The event may benefit from the near overlap with the Van’s Pier Classic, as some of the Van’s competitors are sure to take the short drive down south to compete. Additionally, the city of Rosarito Beach is hoping the Rosarito Beach Pro will play well with the big spring break crowd they expect to host throughout the end of March and beginning of April. With a live webcast scheduled to run on April 4th and April 5th, the world will be watching.
Log on to the ASP website for further details and updates as we get closer to the event.
