Brah Surfwear: Surfing Essence Finally Revealed

If Brah Surfwear were a person, I am sure this is what he would say: “Hey Brah! Wanna catch some curl!? Radical! Brah, climb on ‘n my VW bus and we’ll boogie! Gnarly jean shorts, brah. Time for some frisbee, brah!”

If you think that I am exaggerating, then this picture has had no impact on you at all. Just look at the guy who has never been in the ocean, let alone been to the beach. He didn’t even have to get his toes sandy for the photo shoot. All Brah Surfwear needed was a photo of him, a photo of the ocean, a little Photoshop know-how, and VOILA! “a surfer at the beach” to promote your “surf” clothing.

Maybe I am being a little unfair. I suppose I shouldn’t be so critical of a company purporting to be a surf clothing company. But when the clothing looks like the bastard child of a one night drunken mistake between Gap and Urban Outfitters (Urban Outfitters is always getting girls drunk) it makes it very hard to exercise restraint.

Perhaps, I’ll just leave it to you, the readers of dailystoke.com to decide.

Dailystoke Reader, I’d like you to meet Yoffy, Brah Surfwear’s designer.
Just click on the link to his Myspace page to find out more about Yoffy and his passion (unfortunately there is no explanation of what a Yoffy is).

And Dailystoke reader, I also highly recommend stopping by the Brah Surfwear Myspace page to get a comprehensive understanding of the company. You can’t miss the intriguing entry under Heroes (“Anyone who loves surfing as much as Brah does!”) as well as the revealing General section: “Surfing, Hanging out at the beach, Swimming, Beach Volleyball, Sand soccer, Frisbee, Painting, Listening to music.”

And as any good journalist would do, I’ll remain objective and unbiased in quoting from Brah Surfwear’s about page on their website: “Brah Surfware is a modern surf apparel company started by the pop artist Yoffy…Great vibes and good people influence all of Brah’s apparel, which visually defines the simplicity of beach life and the very essence of the surf scene.”

Ah, the “very essence of the surf scene.” That sounds delicious. I can’t believe the essence of surfing had not yet been distilled until Brah Surfwear and Yoffy joined forces and started making their t-shirts for surfers. At least now everyone in the midwest and all the 14 year old girls in the Valley will understand the essence of surfing just as well as surfers like Tom Curren and Chris Malloy do.

I just realized the guy in the first picture is Yoffy. How did I miss that?
