Most surfers claim to be artists and to be perfectly honest, most of them suck. Spending any substantial amount of time in the ocean riding waves and watching the sunset breeds a creative mindset. Everyone channels their creativity differently, and Mike Losness puts his on a canvas. A lot of it’s crap (that’s just hearsay), but a couple of his pieces are really good, too. That hippied-out, Rob Machado-type feel you might see hanging up in a sandwich shop somewhere in Cardiff. I was pretty syked on this pelican one, because it reminded me of the pelican Kelly Slater painted on one of his surfboards swallowing a frog. The frog was reaching out of the pelican’s mouth, and squeezing its throat. It was titled “Never Give Up!”, and maybe you remember it, maybe you don’t…that was when Kelly was going through an art faze painting chicks all over his boards. His Waimea gun had this huge fat chick painted on the deck – pretty classic, really.
Anyhoo, you can check out Mike Losness’ artwork by clicking here.
