The 2009 Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast, presented by LG Mobile took yet another day off on Friday, deferring to the women’s Roxy Pro event. While the waves just started turning back on, the decision was made to allow the women to run through a few rounds of competition on Friday.
With waves on the rise, event organizers and competing surfers are hopeful of seeing the event launch on Saturday morning (early afternoon, Pacific time). When the Quiksilver Pro recommences, we’ll see the full run of Round 2, the first elimination round of the 2009 season. Many top ranked surfers will be fighting to survive the cut and maintain their high seed. Falling into this camp are world number 2, Bede Durbidge (AUS); Cooly kid, Joel Parkinson; top Aussie goofyfoot, Ace Buchan; Bobby Martinez (USA); and highly ranked Aussie, Kai Otton.
Other favorites and rookies fighting to advance include uber-talented sophomores, Jordy Smith (ZAF) and Dane Reynolds (USA); Californian surfers, Timmy Reyes, Taylor Knox and Chris Ward; Cooly kid, Dean Morrison; and tour newcomers, Marlon Lipke (DEU), Dustin Barca (HAW), Nathaniel Curran (USA), and Michel Bourez (PYF).
Log on to the event website for updates, photos, heats on demand and heat sheets, and be sure to tune in on Saturday morning (Queensland time) to catch all of the live action.
