So it seemed like every who’s hip to the surf scene in N. County decided to show up to Aaron’s posh wine and cheese gallery opening event. Although the party wasn’t really my scene, the man knows how to use that camera. One thing that I had expected was the prices. The large format framed prints were upwards of $5K, not necessarily an unreasonable sum for a gigantic work of art, but certainly beyond the budget of most mac-and-cheese-eatin’ surfer bums. What was nice though was that there were really high quality 16″x24″ archival prints for about 2 bills, which was much more within reach of most of Aaron’s target market.
If nothing else I would recommend going in and seeing some of the photos in person. There are qualities in his work that really are amazing in large format (ex: duck diving Malia…whoa). Check out the what, where, and when on his website at www.aaronchanggallery.com.
