Crowded shore break? Explore, avoid the swarm and score

The other day I went to go out surfing at my regular spot, thinking that a nice wave would be rolling in. When I got there, the high tide had all but swamped any outside waves and the only wave breaking was at the spot that always breaks, so therefore, it was considerably crowded (I don’t why, it wasn’t that good). But I figured, what the hell, and went out at the spot I looked at first. Maybe a real set hadn’t come yet. No. It sucked. That’s when I directed my eyes down towards the other end of the beach, where I saw waves breaking outside. Sure enough, after a 100 or so yards of walking down, I found a spot where it was breaking waist to stomach high, with like no wait between sets. The crowded spot was only like knee to waist high (maybe a rare stomach). But here there was no crowd – just four other surfers. So for the rest of the evening, I enjoyed some pretty fun waves without having to fight for them. My point? Explore your beach! A sandbar could pop up anytime and make a nice wave that no one knows about! I only walked like 100 yards and scored fun, uncrowded waves, instead of surfing small, crowded shore break. Don’t turn a blind eye to other spots, keep them open as a surfable spot! Besides, a wave is wave, no matter where it breaks!
