O’Neill Cold Water Classic, Tasmania kicks off on Monday

The first 6 star event of the season kicks off this Monday, March 23rd in Tasmania, bringing out the biggest names of the season to date. World Tour hopefuls from around the world will try their luck at this high ranking World Qualifying Series event, in an effort to secure significant points towards Dream Tour qualification early in the season.

The Tasmania event is a new event to add to the Cold Water Classic series that previously featured the Scottish Highland Pro and the infamous Cold Water Classic at Steamer Lane. Also joining Tasmania in this expanded contest series will be South Africa and Canada, making for the most well rounded cold water event series in history. As the folks at O’Neill say, “The five ASP WQS 6-star events will take place on four continents:the most Northern, the most Southern, the coldest, the wildest and the most classic surf contests on the planet”. To make the 6 Star series even sweeter, O’Neill is throwing an additional $50,000 prize to the overall series winner.

It looks like O’Neill has put together one hell of a high ranking series of events, which we can only hope will become a regular fixture on the World Qualifying Series. Tune in to the event website for details, updates, photos, videos, heat sheets and all the live action.
