Product Review – Soularc Boards

As you know, I’ve been doing more and more longboard skateboard reviews and have become a huge advocate for using them to train for surfing. Although all of the boards offer many similarities to the traditional surf experience, I found that many are still missing that genuine surfing feel.

This is where SoulArc comes in. They are a relatively new board company but are introducing a radical new concept to the industry that was designed specifically to simulate surfing. Their board is composed of a maple deck slightly bigger than a regular longboard/skateboard deck and offers a rear kick lip and full grip tape. Mounted to underside of the deck is their patented composite spring system. Drop-thru trucks mount to the spring which hosts super grippy 64mm wheels. When all these elements are combined you get a ride like no other out there! I was interested in the board strictly for surf training but there are some guys out there doing some crazy tricks on these things!

I have to admit; there was a slight learning curve but no more than when you get a new surfboard. The board sits higher than a standard skateboard and the additional flex during pumping takes some getting used to. However, once you have it dialed in it really does feel like you’re surfing! I’d compare the ride to a short thruster or fish on a clean waist to chest high day. It is loose and fast and and the spring allows you to carve hard and maintain speed as you would when coming off a top or bottom turn. The other benefit is that it is sooo easy to pump! You can keep going with minimal effort.

Lastly, no matter where I went with this thing people were intrigued and asked questions. I even went to the local skate park and got some of the groms on it and they were stoked; I’m sure their parents will be putting orders in soon! There’s certainly nothing else out there that looks like a SoulArc board and although these boys from Michigan don’t get waves too often, they have definitely come up with a good solution to capture the surfing experience on concrete. If you’re a surfer, you’ll love this product! If you skate, you’ll love this product! Check them out at: www.soularcboards.com/ and as always, tell a friend.

I cant see any advantages over a normal longboard-appart from you can bounce up and down on it! And thats not exactly surfing is it!

Simplicity is always the best design solution and if you ask me you cant beat a noraml longboard for that- if you want to make your board carve harder-change your trucks and bushings or used wedged risers.

The other advantage of a normal longboard is that it can handle higher speed turns and carves-people race there longboards upto and around 70mph-I dont think this think will handle any kinda speed over 15mph and lets face it most of us will wanna go faster than that!

Sorry for the rant! I know I’m probably biast because I work in the skateboard industry but I’ve just seen too many fads like this come and go and costing a heap of money while skateboarding sticks around for ever and cost very little.
