Billabong ASP World Junior Championship

The Billabong ASP World Junior Championship is in its third full day of competition in glassy 3 to 4 foot waves at Sydney, Australia’s North Narrabeen Beach.  The event window is from January 3rd through January 10th.  Though it is the first ASP sanctioned event running in 2009, the event actually decides the undisputed champions of the Junior ranks from the 2008 ASP Pro Junior Series.  Competitors representing each of the ASP’s seven districts, North America, Hawaii, Australasia, Japan, Europe, Africa and South America will be going head to head in what is the most prestigious event in the Junior’s division. 

The World Junior Championship has launched the careers of many of the World Tour and World Qualifying Series top competitors.  On the women’s front, the career trajectory is even more impressive, with every single surfer to win the championship has gone on to qualify for the Women’s World Tour.
