Boost Mobile Pro - Day 4 recap
Slater, Slater, Slater! It was Kelly Slater day today, day 4 of the Boost Mobile Pro. He’s gunning for nine. He took down former World Champ, Sunny Garcia in Round 3 and then trounced Kieren Perrow in their Round 4 matchup, with Slater posting a 9.17, 9.60 and then a 10.0 ride in the final 20 seconds of the heat. He secured the only 10 point ride of the contest so far, and showed the world once again why he’s the 8 time world champ. Round 3 winners were Bobby Martinez, Kai Otton, Kieren Perrow, Mick Fanning (who defeated the seemingly unstoppable wildcard Yadin Nicol), Taylor Knox, Adriano de Souza, Jeremy Flores, Taj Burrow (who finally put a stop to local California wildcard Brett Simpson), Jordy Smith (keep earning that paycheck!), Heitor Alves and Jay Thompson. Round 3 also contained some big upsets, with Chris Ward, CJ Hobgood and Bruce Irons all suffering defeats by back of packers. Round 4 winners were Bede Durbidge, who ousted Luke Steadman; Dane Reynolds, who took down Joel Parkinson in a defeat that is sure to make it that much harder for number 2 Joel to catch up with Kelly;Bobby Martinez, who defeated Kai Otton; Kelly Slater, who humiliated Kieren Perrow; Mick Fanning, who took down an in-form Taylor Knox; and Jeremy Flores, who defeated fellow youngster, Adriano de Souza to continue his path towards top ten-dom. Things kick off Thursday with a heat not to miss, Round 4, heat 7, Taj Burrow vs. Jordy Smith; followed by Heitor Alves vs. Jay Thompson. Then we go right into the quarterfinals.
