Bruna Schmitz - 2009 Women’s World Tour rookie

Young 18 year old, Brazilian beauty, Bruna Schmitz, previously known for her role as arm candy to World Tour top Fronchie, Jeremy Flores, has just made a name for herself by finishing sixth on this year’s World Qualifying Series.  The sixth place finish has won her a seed on the 2009 Women’s World Tour, where she will be facing off against the World’s best in the best locations on the planet.  Fortunately for Bruna, a few of those spots will coincide with tour stops of her beau.

Bruna failed to garner a win on this year’s WQS, but still managed to place high enough throughout the season to lock in her coveted spot on the World Tour.  Since many of the women on the World Tour tend to back up their results through surfing the WQS or just do it for the money or glory, Bruna is well prepared for meeting the world’s best head on.  She is one of the up-and-coming group of young female surfers, age 18 and under, who have begun to make a big impact on the women’s competitive surfing.  She managed to stick it to her elders and qualify for the World Tour, along with 17 year old, Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), and possibly 18 year old Alana Blanchard (HAW), depending on how things shake out at the Billabong Pro Maui.  Bruna is just getting started on her surfing career, and we’re sure to see great things in the future from this talented young lady.  Welcome to the big leagues, Bruna!
