How to win heats like Kelly Slater
Boost Mobile Pro, Round 1, Heat 8 -Shane Beschen and Dayyan Neve both displayed a level of surfing that was lightyears above any of our dreams. Both incorporated a series of hacks with modern aerial or twisting maneuvers. Both rode their waves with the expertise of surf gods. Both threw everything they had into their waves with the hopes of upsetting the one surf god who was competing against them at that moment, hizzonor, Mr. Robert Kelly Slater. When you watch Kelly’s three waves, you watch the first one and think, I could have scored better than him on that one; then you watch his second wave and think, f*ck, this guys so good, he makes it look effortless; no reason to even bother trying to beat him; then you watch his third wave and think, wait, he’s joking right; he kinda dropped in on his knees then did that weird leg kick thing, then did a sick fakie thing and finished with a frontside reverse; is he even taking this thing seriously? It is watching Kelly surf like this that makes you realize that your are a mere mortal. Anyone feel like paddling out against him at Trestles?
