there is usually a perfect spot to be in just in front of the breaking wave

Pro Surfing and Contests

Kelly Slater and Rob Machado doing what they do best

This is one of those memorable video moments, that once you see it, you want to try with your best friend.  Only… your best friend is not Kelly Slater, nor is he Rob Machado.  Therefore, you will not be able to replicate this feat to any level of competence approaching the Slater/Machado show.  Well, it never stopped any of us from trying before.

It’s amazing how these two top surfers can bring the same effortless grace to weaving in and around one another that they can to surfing a wave on their own.  When they’re able to continue to surf at this level while slaloming around one another, it almost seems wasteful that they ever take waves completely on their own.  I guess the tandem slalom surf contests are few and far between, and our beloved Kelly Slater enjoys winning a world title or nine.

Reminds me of the summer days of yore, when my friends and I first started learning to actually pull 360s.  We tried pulling them while riding the wave together, with the front guy going for the 360, while the guy in back whipped by, with the lead guy effectively 360-ing above the guy who started out in back.  Unfortunately, unlike the guys above, our synchronized surfing experience was less Slater and Machado, and more blood and foam.

Enjoy!
