MR Pro - Saturday recap
The action continued again on Saturday at the Mark Richards Pro at Merewether in Newcastle, NSW, Australia. Saturday’s day of competition ran through all of Round 5, setting up the quarterfinalists for a Sunday finish.
Powering through their Round 5 heats were Aussies, Nick Vasicek, Luke Cheadle, Sam Lendrum, Clancy Dawson, Jarrad Howse, Michael Spencer and World Tour surfer, Drew Courtney, along with the lone surviving international surfer, former World Tour surfer, Travis Logie of South Africa. Logie posted the highest heat score of the day, with a 17.50 out of 20, posting a 9.0 and 8.5 in his heat against Aussie, Parrish Byrne.
Bowing out on the local Australian front on Saturday were Parrish Byrne, Dane Bird, Chris Bennetts, Noah Lane, Dale Lovelock and Craig Anderson. Two of the three remaining international surfers also got the boot on Saturday, including Tahitian rising star, Tamaroa McComb, and Richard Christie of New Zealand.
