While analysts are debating the feasibility of Quiksilver’s current model, which continued to post losses in the first quarter of 2009, the brand that houses the likes of nine-time World Champ, Kelly Slater, and “Young Guns”, Dane Reynolds, Jeremy Flores and Julian Wilson, along with a host of other super talented stars, is continuing with international retail store expansions.
As our friends over at SurfersVillage.com reported recently, Quiksilver is opening a number of Quiksilver and Roxy stores throughout Germany during a time where many retailers are contracting or maintaining status quo. At the same time as this German expansion, Quik is actively looking to unload assets to bring cash back into the fold, in a market that is not quite ripe for selling off businesses.
What does this German expansion say about the boardsport giant? They’re doing something right, right? Don’t let the numbers get you worried. It might take a little bit of turning back to their roots, but regardless of how rough this year is for Quiksilver and other big industry players, we’re certain Quik will survive and continue to thrive as one of the premier global boardsport brands.
Hang in there, Quik. We’re behind ya.
