Though we’ll have to wait for the call, the official waiting period for this year’s WQS 6 Star Prime Reef Hawaiian Pro kicks off today. The Reef is the first event of three in this year’s Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.
Though the contest has a waiting period running from November 12th to November 23rd, we may get lucky to see a start today, with a minor swell in the water that is expected to increase dramatically towards the end of the day. With larger surf expected over the next few days, we’re certain to see a start this week.
Round 1 of the men’s event will feature champions and legends such as Derek Ho (HAW), Mark Occhilupo (AUS), Bruce Irons (HAW), Shane Beschen (USA) and many others. As we get into the later Rounds, we’ll begin to see top seeded World Tour and WQS surfers in what should prove to be an amazing event. Hawaii is one of those few places in the world where the World Tour surfers are eager to compete among the WQS and local masses, mixing with hungry surfers of all ages who are out to prove their worth in the world’s most challenging waves.
Stay tuned to the event website for updates and all the live action.
