Pro Surfing and Contests

Reef Hawaiian Pro - Monday lay day

The WQS 6 Star Prime Reef Hawaiian Pro and the women’s WQS 6 Star Reef Hawaiian Pro contests went on hold again Monday as another lay day was called.  Small surf continued throughout the day on Monday as the contestants sit in waiting for the swell that is expected in the latter part of this week.  Forcasts are calling for the swell to continue to diminish over the next couple of days, then rapidly fill in with a new NNW groundswell showing on Thursday.  Friday may see an even bigger bump in size, making for perfect conditions for the conclusion of both the men’s and women’s events.  This is the penultimate event on this year’s men’s World Qualifying Series and the final event on the women’s World Qualifying Series.

Though the women’s WQS rankings will be finalized at the end of this weekend, we still won’t have a final list of who did and didn’t make the cut until the final two women’s World Tour contest run later this month and next.  With several of the ladies on the World Tour double hitting on the WQS, a few double qualifiers can mean one or more additional girls on the WQS could make the cut, beyond the traditional top 6.  On the men’s front, there is less likelihood that any of the guys doing double duty will double qualify, meaning… we should have a perfect picture of exactly who on the men’s WQS will qualify for the 2009 tour following Haleiwa and the Sunset contest.

Check in each morning on the event website as the contest is ready to go live the moment the waves show.
