Sri Lankan Airlines Pro underway in the Maldives

The 2009 6 Star Sri Lankan Airlines Pro wrapped up its fourth day of competition on Thursday in the Maldives, setting the stage for the Round of 24 for when competition resumes.

While the first few days have suffered from less than perfect conditions, many of the world’s best and brightest have turned out and fought their way through to the fourth round. A number of well-knowns were shown the exit in the earlier rounds, including Russell Winter (GBR), Jay Thompson (AUS), Nathaniel Curran (USA), Nathan Hedge (AUS), Marlon Lipke (DEU), Nic Muscroft (AUS), Nathan Webster (AUS) and others. More stars were knocked out in round three, including Brett Simpson (USA), Gony Zubizarreta (ESP), Dane and Tanner Gudauskas (USA), Adam Melling (AUS), Sunny Garcia (HAW), Dion Atkinson (AUS) and Luke Munro (AUS), among others.

There’s still plenty of action yet to come, featuring heavy hitting current and former World Tour surfers, and serious WQS campaigners such as Patrick Gudauskas (USA), Aritz Aranburu (EUK), Rodrigo Dornelles (BRA), Cory Lopez (USA), Yadin Nicol (AUS), Travis Logie (ZAF), Jadson Andre (BRA), Heitor Alves (BRA), Owen Wright (AUS), Daniel Ross (AUS), Jean da Silva (BRA), Sebastien Zietz (HAW), and Drew Courtney (AUS).
