Hot Wahine

Hot Wahine is, as the name suggests, a Hot Wahine, who surfs a 7'6" funshape. She is a creature of leisure who would prefer to surf in Barbados year round, than, say, anywhere she has to wear a wetsuit. (We think she looks fine in a wetsuit.)

Intel Shows Off a Web-Surfing Surfboard

surf-the-web-while-on-surfboard

I came across this bizarre display of ridiculous surf consumerism during a random Google search this morning.  The article was originally published by ABC News on Oct 8, 2004 ...the headline screaming: "Intel Shows Off a Web-Surfing Surfboard"...a desperate attempt to save the hi-tech company from the dot.com bubble burst.  Because you wouldn't believe me if I simply summarized what the article is about, I feel that it is necessary to paste the stupidest part of the article: "Ralph Bond, a spokesman … [Read more...]

Celebrities who can stand next to surfboards: Kardashian #2

kourteney_kardashian

Do we really have to start caring about all the Kardashians now? It's like celebrity Reagan economics. I mean, I could make some really obvious "trickle down" jokes stemming from why Kim Kardashian is famous, but I'm gonna be a lady and pass... Caption: "Does this board make my a$$ look big? I hope so, 'cause my sister gets all the attention with hers." Writer's Note: I will never drink Sierra Mist again. Writer's Shopping List: Find new vodka mixer. … [Read more...]

East Coast Surfing vs West Coast Surfing

photo via surfing-waves.com

Trust me, it takes a lot of balls to move from Brooklyn to Encinitas for the sole purpose of getting more surf time in your life, and I don't even have balls. Having tried to surf out of Brooklyn for almost 3 years I finally gave up, quit my job, bought a pick up truck and drove west with dreams of surfable waves dancing in my head. I've learned alot since I moved here, most notably? West Coast surfing is way different (read: BETTER) than East Coast surfing. I learned most of my East Coast surfing … [Read more...]

Happy Easter from Daily Stoke

I'm not quite sure who is decorating the Cardiff Kook every holiday, but I'm pretty sure they'd be fun to crush a few tall boys with and paddle out. Happy Easter, SoCal Style! … [Read more...]

Being on the Injury List: Phases of Grief

The Injury

The day before I massively stabbed myself in the palm with a butcher knife trying to get an avocado pit out, I had had a dreamy session at Swami's. There were only about 5 people out, it was the middle of the day on a Tuesday and the waves were fun little cruisers. All five of us were having fun, taking turns and generally just enjoying the California sunshine and loving life. I remember getting out thinking "That was cool. What should I have for lunch?" Cut to two weeks later and I would gladly … [Read more...]

The Xmas Gift That Saves the Coral Reef!

tonic_tote

Brit-based designer, Luella Bartley, has designed a line of beach totes for Tonic.com that make excellent stocking stuffers this holiday season. (Use your imaginations, guys...roll 'em up, stuff 'em in - they're canvas! Don't have a stocking? Why not use this bag as one and fill it w/little gifts instead of using a thousand yards of wrapping paper?) These bags are really cute and you can take 'em just about anywhere. The really cool thing about buying one of these bags is that you save 1/4 of an … [Read more...]

Test Ride a Surfboard Made of Soda Bottles

We may love the ocean, but the truth is that surfboards are difficult to dispose of in an environmentally-friendly way. But the question is this: Are you willing to give up your quiver for a surfboard made of soda bottles? This guy doesn't seem to mind - and he seems to be catching some decent rides. As a side note, there are some ways you can dispose of old boards without killing the environment. San Diego county, for example, is grinding up old boards and using them as filler in concrete. … [Read more...]

River Surfing Never Ceases to Amaze Me

River surfing looks like fun, but there is something odd and unnatural about it. I can't put my finger on it - maybe it's the line up that forms on land rather than in the water. Maybe it's the fact that it's so type-A with its orderly lines and without any jack-asses or kooks dropping in on anyone. I don't know, but it's weird. … [Read more...]

The Environmental Risks of the Surfboard

As surfers, we have a special appreciation and respect for the ocean. And yet, the only piece of equipment we depend on for our surfing pastime, that is, the surfboard, is contributing to the degradation of the environment. Many novice surfers don't think much about it since they may never buy a board or they may buy one board every 5 years, but the environmental risk of surfing weighs more heavily on the more seasoned surfer who is going through a board or two a year. Good news is that there … [Read more...]

Spotted: Adrenaline Junkie Surfer and Shark

Real or fake - you decide. Either way, I'd be pretty damn pissed if I were a surfer in the water that day and some guys drops in on me while being pulled by a shark. At that point, I wouldn't give a f*%k if it were a fake shark. … [Read more...]
