Weekday Warrior

P.K. was born and raised in Del Mar, CA and grew up obsessively surfing between Grandview and the Reefs of La Jolla. After getting an overpriced degree, he abandoned the mainstream to live in the mountains of British Columbia, where he built and operated a bar in the ski town of Rossland, BC, home of Red Mountain. After dealing with one too many whisky-fed hockey fights, he returned to reality in Leucadia, where he currently works, plays, and lives. You will often see him checking the surf in his red tacoma that still has B.C. plates....F'n DMV

To Pee or Not to Pee: That is the Question

hamlet

To pee or not to pee: that is the question; Whether 'tis warmer in the lineup to suffer The stink and yellow of our own urine, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them? To shiver: to freeze; No more; and by with a quick piss we end The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation... ...Nothing like a little Hamlet ripoff to preface a nice user poll on peeing in your wetsuits.  Smelly booties anyone? -P.K. De-BAJA-ucheury: Baja 40-Day Surf Travel Journal

the-wall_210

After two years of living the landlubbing lifestyle in Rossland, British Columbia and enjoying all the pursuits that living deep in the mountains could afford, I yearned for the salty taste of the ocean and cold Mexican Beer.  So we threw a camper on my biodiesel-fed F350, packed up all our dusty surfboards, and pointed the rig south.  We spent the next 40 days on the road and had some amazing times, some great waves, and about 300 frosty (or luke warm) Pacificos. So years ago, back … [Read more...]

Surf Flat? Stay in Paddling Shape for Cheap

treadmillwoman

There are definitely advantages to going to your local gym after work to try to get in shape.  Your gym has every machine and weight setup you could possibly need to get a great workout, not to mention the scenery is usually pretty good. But once you're there, and finally not distracted for long enough to actually get to your own workout, and you finally find a free machine or benchpress, what do you do?  With so many options and fancy machines it's hard to focus and be productive with your … [Read more...]

“Nothing better than sex and tube rides” -Mark Richards: XXL EVENT COVERAGE

billabong_big_wave

DailyStoke.com was invited to attend the Billabong XXL Big Wave awards - so my photographer and I scored some all access media passes to the ridiculous festivities surrounding the Billabong XXL Big Wave Awards.  Freakin' sweetness.  If you ignored my recommendation to watch the webcast, here's the recap from a first person perspective. After fighting 2 hours of S.D. to O.C. Friday afternoon commuter traffic, we finally arrived at the Grove Theater in the shadow of Angel's Stadium.  Unfortunately … [Read more...]

So if you're like me, and your GoPro ran out of batteries right as you got whipped into a 65 foot bomb at Cortez Bank, then you probably didn't get an invite to the event of all events in the big wave world this year.  There is however, a consolation that will allow you to live vicariously through the likes of Brian Conley, Greg Long, and all the other chargers that have bigger cojones than you have, (and thus attend cooler parties than you do.)  You can check out all the festivities simply … [Read more...]

The HangGoose Wetsuit Hanger – Surfing Product Review

wetsuit-hanger-surf-gift

I have a confession to make... In my youth, I was a convicted wetsuit abuser.  Back when my parents bankrolled my surfing addiction I would routinely stomp my suit into the dirt, ball it up, and chuck it into the sealed trunk of my Volvo.  There in the dark it would stay until I squirmed into the sandy, wet, fungus prolificator before my next session.  Average lifespan of my neoprene?  Sadly, one season.... Now that I am paying for my own hi-tech suits worth between 3 and 4 $bills, I fully … [Read more...]
