Surfer Attempts to dig to China – ridiculous surfing sh!t

I have just lost 8 minutes of my life that I will never ever get back and you can too!! I would point out that surfing fitness should never, ever be done on the beach. Don't you agree? I mean, in the 8 scintillating minutes that I spent watching this one, I was really thinking "Fark - I could probably log the waves that are breaking behind them." My favorite moment in the video is when the surfer attempts to dig to China, on the very front of his foam-top board. I know what the surfer is thinking … [Read more...]

Vasa Surf Paddling Machine Thingy

vasa_training_machine

Are you one of the 12 people worldwide that has the Vasa Surf Paddling machine in your apartment or Malibu beach house? Send us an email at info@dailystoke.com - we'd love to hear from ya. I am VERY VERY close to actually buying one, and my wife doesn't know. Hehehe. It's been so fricken flat around here, I'm thinking it's worth it. There is nothing - nothing! - worse than paddling out and then weakling out after about 30 minutes cuz your triceps and back aren't used to paddling after a couple of … [Read more...]

GO SURF: Surfing Book Review

go-surf-book

Did you know Captain Kook, I mean Cook (with a C), discovered surfing for the Europeans in the 1700s?  The things we learn from instructional surf books....  I Just finished reading GO SURF and watching the 30-minute virtual coaching DVD that comes with the book.  This is a pretty good instructional surf book for beginners and more experienced surfers looking for a review of the fundamentals: it covers everything from basic stuff (standing up, punching thru waves, takeoff, speed and control) to … [Read more...]

NOHO surf trainer – a surfing product review

Instead of busting your head open with an Indo Board, a great new product to try (or buy for a logger near you) is the NOHO Surf Trainer, with damn cool video shown here. Invented by Mark Carlson, the California-designed product consists of four pod-like-things strapped to the bottom of your board. The pods are made of rubber, as are the straps, and there's no danger of dinging your board. So what's the point? Said Carlson: "The biggest barrier to improving my surfing technique was the difficulty … [Read more...]

Surf Flat? Stay in Paddling Shape for Cheap

treadmillwoman

There are definitely advantages to going to your local gym after work to try to get in shape.  Your gym has every machine and weight setup you could possibly need to get a great workout, not to mention the scenery is usually pretty good. But once you're there, and finally not distracted for long enough to actually get to your own workout, and you finally find a free machine or benchpress, what do you do?  With so many options and fancy machines it's hard to focus and be productive with your … [Read more...]

Longboards Rule!

Before all you shortboarders get your panties in a bunch, I’m talking skate here. Nothing like cruising a longboard and when you can get some decent carves in the feeling only gets better. This clip illustrates some epic LB action. Check it. … [Read more...]

Simply Simpo- Brett Simpson Training

This is Brett Simpson training to be the best possible contest surfer he can be. Ian "Kanga" Cairns is helping him out, and I think it's safe to say that dude knows a few things about professional surfing. After Timmy Reyes, Brett Simpson is probably Huntington Beach's next best hope for a world champion. Both are highly unlikely in my book, but Simpo most definitely rips, and I've been wrong before. Kind of like how I'll think eating at Taco Bell is a great idea, and then later that night I'm trapped … [Read more...]

The Quest for Perfect Bush Barrels

Always mind-surfing I can’t help but lean in and arm-drag under sidewalk bush pits myself...apparently these lads live in a bush barrel rich zone. … [Read more...]

BC Longboards ~ Dailystoke.com custom longboard!

bc22

I have recently discovered longboard skateboarding to be a great way to train for surfing during flat spells. The more I do it, the more stoked I get and after returning to the water after a recently long flat spell, I am convinced it helps with my performance in the water. Because I feel longboards are such good training for surfing, I have reached out to a few companies that specialize in such products and wanted to share my results with our readers. This month I am very pleased to introduce BC … [Read more...]

“Skindog” vs. Jaws

Santa Cruz surfer Kenny “Skindog” Collins is a madman. He’s successfully established himself as a big-wave hellman with a knack for finding his line into cavernous tubes at places like Maverick‘s and Puerto Escondido (see this). Looks like he‘s finally met his match. … [Read more...]
