I was watching the Billabong Pipeline Masters recently (during which Bruce Irons lost out in his heat and started screaming at the judges that he didn’t get the score because he retired from the tour this year), and every time someone got axed, I kept thinking of The Wedge. After a little YouTube search, I [...]
I found some really cool video clips of the new Surf Hero board camera coming out by X-Treme video, and it looks pretty slick.
The 5 Megapixel “Surf HERO” wide sports camera has a 5mp sensor, improved low light performance, faster “Photo every 2 second” mode, and a mega-wide 170 degree lens. It shoots 56 minutes of video [...]
This video is sick and should be shown to groms and budding surfing filmmakers everywhere. I haven’t played with Playmobil in like, three months! The tubes are basically perfect. Love it.
The title “Just Add Water” won’t mean anything to you until you actually watch the movie by the same name, featuring the surfing of one Clay Marzo. Marzo is a shredder from the Rock, who, perhaps unlike any other surfer, is like Gumby on the waves. He just molds himself and his body into the face, [...]
Imagine a wave so long that you have to get out of the water and walk back to the break after you’ve ridden it for almost a mile! Welcome to Peru- home of one of the longest surf breaks in the world: Chicama. Not only that, all you goofy-footers out there (you lucky, lucky surfers), [...]
During my trip through Central America, it was my plan to try to surf all the places that we were visiting. Unfortunately, the crunch of time made us pass by the Guatemalan beaches to hit the black-sanded El Salvadorian surf instead. We visited Northern and Central Guatemala (some of the most gorgeous places I’ve ever [...]
The first thing that strikes you when watching This is Home - is the vividness of the colors.
It’s not just blue, it’s that blue that shows up only on the Gold Coast. This is what happens when you have a filmmaker who knows his craft and picks the right spots, as Nathan Apffel has done [...]
(continued from Travel Diaries: Nicaragua Part 1)
The beach break was fun, but a little shady because of shallow rocks. It didn’t compare to the perfect A-frames that the competitors were tearing up. I had wanted to compete, but we got to the beach too late to sign up (we never expected the adventure that it [...]
All the nominees are totally deserving, but I’m leaning towards Ricky Basnett’s wave featured in ‘The Pursuit‘. You get glimpses of the magic Ricky’s performing behind the curtain as he pumps his way through a perfect right hander. The blasts of speed generated inside the tube attest to Ricky’s technical tube riding talent. Bravo!
This vid would get folks more stoked if the music weren’t so dark. That said, it is still pretty damn cool. A pencil drawing of a surfer getting barreled, made into an animation. Freaky cool.
