Lightning Bolt Logo

The company reached its prime in the '70s and '80s, but in the mid-80’s the company changed ownership.  … [Read more...]

Donavon Frankenreiter: Interview & Notes from the Road

Frakenreiter 1

We just checked out the man himself on tour and caught up with him after the show to see what's what. The show was kick ass, the band sounded tight as hell, and he got the crowd going by playing a few tunes, giving cold beers to a few people in the crowd, and then did a sing along, with everyone sitting and hanging out on stage for the hawaiian-acoustic part of the set.  He even gave away his ukulele to the winner of the "it don't matter" singoff.  Nice!! Check out his show, and check … [Read more...]

Kassia Meador makes us sweat

kassia-nykassia014

We recently had the great pleasure of sitting down for coffee with the lovely Kassia Meador, who was in town promoting her most recent film, Dear and Yonder. 400 boards. That's what Global Surf Industries donated to a new surfer-run organization called WAVES for Development. WAVES for Development is less than a year old, but doing heaps for locals in Peru who might never have the chance to surf, even on waves right there for the taking. (Like the pretty "little" left shown here.) So just what is WAVES for Development? In sum - it's a nonprofit organization that connects surfing with sustainable development.
