Surf Schools and Surf Rentals: How to Choose?

In the little town I live in, where you can walk ten minutes from one end to the other, there are about 6 (or maybe more) surf schools where they charge about $30 for a lesson and $6 to rent a board. To the left of the right point break is where they take the beginners out for lessons. It’s a nice sandbar, with little baby whitewaters, and everyone out there is a beginner or instructor. The only problem occurs when they get a little too confident and drift over to the right point break, which usually doesn’t fly with the local pro surfers. The locals have no patience for the kooks, even though they are most likely banking off of them in some way. I just really wonder why there are like 8 surf schools for a tiny stretch of beach, charging the same prices, just waiting for that person to choose them for some random reason like: ‘the surf instructor is hot’ or ‘this one looks like it may have some nicer boards than the last one.’ There is no real test or requirement to become a surf instructor in Mexico, so it really doesn’t matter which school you decide to go with. Just choose one, have fun, watch out for people and tuck and cover when you fall.
