Vasa Surf Paddling Machine Thingy

Are you one of the 12 people worldwide that has the Vasa Surf Paddling machine in your apartment or Malibu beach house? Send us an email at info@dailystoke.com - we’d love to hear from ya. I am VERY VERY close to actually buying one, and my wife doesn’t know. Hehehe. It’s been so fricken flat around here, I’m thinking it’s worth it. There is nothing - nothing! - worse than paddling out and then weakling out after about 30 minutes cuz your triceps and back aren’t used to paddling after a couple of days.

  2. Dude, we got one of these machines like 10 years ago when we read the surf tip by Sam George in Surfer Mag. It’s called the Vasa Trainer and it gets the job done. My wife and I use it 3 times a week, mostly for paddle strength. Using it gets us totally stoked for our annual surf trips and keeps us ready for the rare weekends we get to the shore. We also discovered a bunch more exercises that give you Laird Hamilton guns, killer abs and even work the legs for balance. Best $600 investment we ever made. They run specials around this time of year, so look for the deals or ask them for a used one.

  3. Use surgical tubing and duct tape PVC handles on to each end. Wrap it around anything and pull againest the resistance of the tubing. Swimmers have been using this style of training for decades.

  4. It looks cool, but you could probably save some money and just get a gym membership. The Vasa reminds me of one of the machines I use at the gym… but of course I have no idea what it’s called. Most people use the particular machine for back and/or shoulders, but if you stand up and pull the T-bar straight down with your arms, it very much mimics paddling.

  5. Just get a Total Gym. About $200 and works just as well. Plus you can do many more excercises with it and it folds up and out of the way. If it’s good enough for Chuck Norris, it’s good enough for you.

  6. Just to tired from a long plane trip. O.K. start over… Just go paddle a log go stand up paddle board and catch some fish, or just cruise around with polarized glasses! That thing is um….

  7. I agree with Murf - the Total Gym is the way to go. I’ve been trying to use mine for years but it does a better job of collecting dust. Why spend over $1000 for a dust collector when you can get a Total Gym for far less? If you do manage to use your Total Gym it does an excellent job of keeping you in shape for paddling out.
