JLab, a David competing in a Goliath industry dominated by Sony, SkullCandy, and Beats Audio to name a few, is doing something right. Catching the eye of Gizmodo, the NY Times, CNET and the like is no small task. Characterized by clever, utilitarian designs, great build quality, and affordability, their broad line ranges from bluetooth headsets and earbuds, to USB speakers and ipod docks.
I got my hands on a set of the high-end J.Fi earbuds. I'm no audiophile, but I've been told that the titanium micro driver, combined with the precision machined aluminum and ebony hardwood body give a great combination of warmth and crispness of sound. $59 bucks seems like a steal for this setup.
I'm typically an over the ear headphone kind of guy. Years of cold water and howling ocean wind have plagued me (like many of you I imagine) with abnormally constricted ear canals. No iPod buds for this guy. This, unusually, was not an issue with this set of buds. In addition to the standard size, this set comes with SEVEN different sizes, in two different styles and a compact vinyl case to hold everything. After an easy process of trying on progressively smaller and smaller silicone options, I found the perfect fit, and have been wearing them comfortably for about a week.
These headphones definitely rock. Sound quality is as good as my untrained ear could hear. Nice satisfying low end, plenty of mid, and high is clean without being tinny. When your ears are sore from your hipster white iPhone headphones, spend the dough and be happy with a pair of these.
