A fish? A high performance shortboard? How about both! The Meyerhoffer Pill is a great board for any condition and is the type of board you can always take with you on any trip. Designed by Thomas Meyerhoffer of Meyerhoffer Surfboards and Global Surf Industries, the Pill has a lot of volume in the center of the board which allows it to float like a fish and turns it into a wave catching machine. With a thinned out nose and tail, the board is very fast and maneuvers through the sections very well just like a high performance shortboard.

Looking at the bottom of the board there is a single into double concave which offers a lot of speed in smaller waves. In the back there are five FCS fin slots for many fin options depending on the conditions and the rider. Offered in a 5’8”, 5’11’, and a 6’2”size, the Meyerhoffer Pill has a vast size range for any rider.

Taking the Pill out for the first time the waves were around 2’-3’ and were not the best conditions. From the time I stepped in, to the time I got out, riding this board was pure fun! Not thinking that the session was going to be that great due to the choppy and smaller conditions, I was proved wrong by the Pill’s fast speed and quick responsiveness. Since the first ride, I have taken the board out into 5-6’ cleaner conditions and the board still performed great! While many other surfers asked how the board rode due to its odd “Pill” shape, the only word that came to mind was “Awesome”!

I would recommend this board to anyone who wants a good board for any condition. From beginner to advanced surfers or even longboarders looking for a good transition shortboard, the Meyerhoffer Pill is a fantastic choice!
