No B.S. Review
After being out of the water for too long I finally managed to find some time to slip back out and get in a great session the other day. Rushed and frothing to get in I neglected to stretch and after coming in I noticed how sore my upper back and shoulders were. I chalked it up to being a bit rusty and getting older and went about my business. A few days later I was still uncomfortable and went to the chiropractor. He said that is was not as much skeletal as it was muscular; specifically trigger points. I had never heard of trigger points before but soon learned that applying pressure to those areas provided instant relief to my ailing back. Unfortunately, most of those spots are just out of my reach and continued to be an issue until I hear from our friends at Body Back.
Body Back was founded by Paul Nash with the goal of creating massage tools that would comfortably and effectively treat muscle pain. They offer an extensive line of products but for the purposes of this review and my immediate back issues they sent their flagship product, the Body Back Buddy Trigger Point Massager. The Body Back Buddy Trigger Point Massager has been designed for the user to target almost any spot on their own, allowing them to apply the perfect amount of therapeutic pressure; especially those hard to reach areas of the back, neck and shoulders. The Body Back Buddy Trigger Point Massager has 11 therapy knobs spread throughout its 25 inch elongated S shape. The knobs hit the spots in between muscles and pinpoints trigger points for a more finely-tuned massage. It is super easy to use but comes with a free 12 page instruction booklet on a number of different grips, positions, and exercise to relieve any back pain you may have.
The basic instructions are as follows: Hook the Body Back Buddy massage tool over your shoulder or around your side to treat hard to reach areas of the back, neck and shoulders. Hold it comfortably by the handles or the frame so that the therapy knob touches the affected muscle. Push away from your body with your lower or outside hand while guiding the therapy knob with the upper or inside hand. This leveraging technique creates self-directed pressure to the targeted muscle. You can also use the Body Back Buddy to apply healing pressure to many other parts of the body such as your legs, arms, feet, chest and hips. Its versatility allows you to approach each muscle from many angles in creative ways. Since there are hundreds of ways to use the Body Back Buddy Trigger Point Massager, take a moment to experiment and find out what works best for you. Use it standing, sitting, lying down or with a partner. Using these instructions and the Back Buddy Trigger Point Massager for only a few short sessions truly did the trick for me and cured the pain in my upper right shoulder blade area. I now use it after every surf or work out to keep loose and limber!
I would highly recommend a Back Buddy Trigger Point Massager or any of Body Back’s other products to any surfer or athlete prone to muscle soreness, trigger points, or injury. Coming in economically priced around $40 dollars I think you’re getting a steal, especially considering an hour massage could cost $60-$100 dollars!!!
