Toll Road Agency Reacts to Trestles Decision

In a conference call with media this afternoon, Jerry Amante, chairman of the TCA, was vitriolic and vocal in his opposition to the decision of the Secretary of Commerce on the Trestles toll road extension. “This was a result of a noisy minority that is anti-growth, anti-community and zealous in their opposition,” said Amante. In a separate release, the TCA said: “The Secretary’s inexplicable decision is unsupported by the facts and rewards the anti-road and anti-growth obstructionists who have engaged in an orchestrated campaign of misrepresentation and distortion against the road’s completion.”

“I’m sure Surfrider and other obstructionist groups are gleeful at the result today,” Amante said on the call in response to a question by DailyStoke.com

“[Activists] made noise in a way to support their own interests,” noting the decision that helps only a “handful of surfers” but does not help the people of Southern California. Having lost two battles over Trestles, however, has not deterred the TCA, and the Trestles story is not likely over.

Amante explained that TCA would be examining its legal options, “but wasn’t going to throw away twenty years of work based on this one decision.” In a release the TCA said:
“…We will take a hard look at the legal points in the decision and plan a strategy to overcome the Secretary’s inexplicably anti-commerce, anti-neighborhood decision and vow to push forward on a solution that will provide significant traffic relief while protecting Southern California’s economy.”
