When you think about surfing, I guarantee you do not think about hipsters. But low and behold the hipster canon of magazines—Vice Magazine—has put together a decent show on surfing. As with all hipsters, the show Hi Shredability is wary of anything corporate and mainstream, and as annoying as hipsters can be, in this case, it allows them to bring some newness and perspective to surfing and surf culture.
As proof: an interview with a bodysurfer.
Mark Cunningham has spent his life in Oahu bodysurfing and lifeguarding at Pipeline. The video crew follow him in his biodiesel Mercedes as he muses on Oahu society, bodysurfing the Pipe, and the changing life on the island. Mike Stewart, Buttons Kaluhiokalani, and Myles Padaca make an appearance in the episode. And of course, video of him dropping in deep at Pipe.
How can you not respect someone who drops into heavy barrels at Pipe with fins and a speedo?

Outstanding! As a 50-year bodysurfer myself, I have a serious appreciation for what he does. I wouldn’t bodysurf Pipeline if you offered me Kelly Slater’s annual income.
