Highwater: A Film Review of a Movie I Have Never Seen

Highwater is the newest film from the Brown family dynasty. Bruce Brown’s son, Dana, is back on the surf beat after Step Into Liquid to document the final leg of the pro-surfing tour in Oahu, The Vans Triple Crown.

The movie is set to release sometime in the Spring this year. The trailer is up. The tension is high. And Pontz has the only “insider” knowledge around.

Have you been waiting for the greatest surf movie ever put on film? With the most epic barrels? The most epic wipeouts? The most epic narration? The most epic locals?

Have you ever seen a surf movie with Jerry Bruckheimer explosions? What about a surf movie with the style and pacing of a Michael Mann movie? Do you want to see a person ride a 100 foot wave on the back of a blue whale? Has your friend always talked about a surf movie both in HD and in 3D? Are you waiting for the first surf movie that is also a slasher flick? Have you been hoping that a surf movie would come along and grab the attention of surfers and non-surfers alike? Don’t we all want a surf movie to be nominated in ten categories at the next Academy Awards? Can we finally say that a surf movie documents the real Surf Culture we all know? And it doesn’t sacrifice any integrity doing it?

Highwater might just be that movie. But I have to wait and see the screener before I know if any of this speculation is actually true.

  4. The anti-selective effect of the modern mass slaughter of the healthy youth of all nations is hardly outweighed by the consideration that in more primitive conditions war may have had a positive value in letting the fittest survive. ,
