I just came across a great, inspirational surfing video that really brings to light the physical and mental healing power of surfing. While surfing has the profound ability to affect all, children with Autism are especially affected, due to the calming patterns of the waves, paddling rhythm, and other consistent movements that are beneficial to aid with Autism. You can find the video here: Healing Power of Surfing
It’s sometimes easy to take the healing power of surfing for granted when you paddle out a couple times a week, so videos like the one above really allow you to reflect on just how mentally and physically rejuvenated you can feel after a surfing session. We all know exercise releases endorphins (produces a sense of well being), but there’s something all-encompassing about surfing that can only be felt through experience.
It’s so rewarding to share that stoke with first-timers, and seeing that genuine smile after catching their first wave, so I can only imagine how wonderful it must feel to see it on the faces of children with Autism. Please share the stoke with someone and pass on the amazing feeling that we all experience with each wave we catch.
