The Al Merrick Movie - Flow - The True Story of a Surfing Revolution
Ok, so the intro piece is a bit over the top, but it IS true that Al Merrick has had a hand in the best surfing of all time, over the past 35-odd years. Curren, Machado, Martinez, the Malloys, Sl9R are all team riders. It’s fitting then that Koastal Media has produced a truly awesome movie - Flow - the True Story of a Surfing Revolution - which documents that journey. Every surfer who’s ever oogled at a finely shaped Channel Islands surfboard, dreamed of owning several or who wants to understand what it means to hand shape over 70,000 surfboards, needs to watch this movie. The trailer is below, along with some sick sick footage from the film and great interview clips. As Al Merrick himself says: “It was never about me; It was always about the surfers.” Indeed. Check out the trailer, get the film. We’ll do a review of the whole thing later in the fall.
