2009 Women’s Movistar Pro - Finals recap

Former World Champ and Peruvian native, Sofia Mulanovich took down the competition on Sunday to win the 2009 ASP Women’s WQS 2 Star Movistar Pro presented by Rip Curl and Samsung.  Sofia took down fellow Peruvian Anali Gomez to win the first World Qualifying Series event of the year in a heated, all Peruvian final.

On the way to her season opening victory, Sofia Mulanovich entered the event in Round 3, due to her high seeding as a World Tour competitor, where she won her four-woman heat, topping fellow Peruvians, Karen Mendiguet and Brissa Malaga, and Adriana Cano of Venezuela.  In the Quarterfinals, Sofia took down Gabriela Ribeiro of Brazil.  She then sealed her Final seat by showing fellow Peruvian, Alexia Jeri the exit.

Following this Peru event, the Women’s WQS will go on another hiatus until the end of March, when the 2 Star, Maitland Toyota Open in Merewether, Australia runs from March 18th to March 22nd.  On March 30th, the Women’s WQS will see it’s third event, and first big point event of the season, with the 5 Star, Drug Aware Pro, running in Margaret River, Australia from March 30th to April 5th.

Log on to the ASP South America website for photos, news, heat sheets and more.  See you next month in Australia.
