2009 World Tour rankings update following the Billabong Pro Teahupoo

Holy crappers! Teahupoo put on a hell of a show, despite the fact that it never got all that big.

Joel Parkinson (AUS) still tops the list, though he stumbled in Round 3, followed by Taj Burrow (AUS), who jumped from 7th to 2nd. Mick Fanning’s ninth place finish dropped him into 3rd place, while C.J. Hobgood’s (USA) third quarterfinal finish bumped him to 4th in the rankings, and Adriano De Souza (BRA) continued his climb from 6th to 5th on the strength of his quarterfinal finish. Bobby Martinez made a big jump from 19th to 7th with his win at Chopes, while Jordy Smith’s Round 3 exit saw him drop from 3rd to 6th.

Big movers from the back of the pack include Mick Campbell (AUS), who jumped from 29th to 16th with an equal third and Aritz Aranburu (EUK), who jumped 20 spots, from 39th to 19th with his equal third place. If Mick and Aritz can pull off one more solid result this season, they’ll sail smoothly onto the 2010 Dream Tour.

Some of our talented tour leaders continued to stumble, with Kelly Slater (USA) again taking an equal 17th. Other tour front-runners, including world runner-up Bede Durbidge (AUS), Ace Buchan (AUS), and Jeremy Flores (FRA) also joined the Round 2 exit party.
