Some 657 speakers signed up by September 12 to speak today about the Trestles toll road extension, for three minutes each. As of 3:30pm with five hours remaning til shut down, only some 75 speakers have spoken, and most of them have been politicians, with the exception of Steve Pezman of The Surfers Journal and a bunch of great folks from Surfrider and the Sierra Club. All in all, the public hearing will have some impact, but hearings being what they are, and this being a statutory review, they panelists will be pressed to put aside emotion and focus on the legal and political issues at play. Saving Trestles is not slam dunk, but today most certainly will have helped the anti-Toll Road cause, even if they’ve been told to keep it down several times now.
