ASP Women’s World Tour

The Women’s World Tour has 17 surfers altogether, comprised of the top 10 surfers from the previous year’s World Tour, the top 6 surfers from the previous year’s Women’s WQS and 1 ASP wildcard.  Taking a look at this year’s World Tour and WQS, we get a better picture of who might and might not be on next year’s Women’s World Tour.

Starting with the ASP Women’s World Tour, with only two contests left on what is considered by many to be the most challenging leg of tour, the Hawaiian events, the top 17 girls are:

1 Stephanie Gilmore (AUS)  5148

2 Sofia Mulanovich (PER)  4963

3 Layne Beachley (AUS)  4454

4 Silvana Lima (BRA)  4166

5 Amee Donohoe (AUS)  3691

6 Samantha Cornish (AUS)  3612

7 Rebecca Woods (AUS)  3050

8 Jacqueline Silva (BRA)  3038

9 Jessi Miley-Dyer (AUS)  2628

10 Melanie Bartels (HAW)  2544

11 Julia De La Rosa (PER)  2474

12 Karina Petroni (USA)  2244

13 Rosanne Hodge (ZAF)  2232

14 Megan Abubo (HAW)  2064

15 Nicola Atherton (AUS)  1836

16 Melanie Redman-Carr (AUS)  1692

17 Serena Brooke (AUS)  1656

The top 6 girls have virtually locked in their spots on next year’s World Tour, but with 1200 points on offer for the winner of each event, there is still technically a chance for all of the girls in the back of the Women’s top 17 to make a run for requalification.  Several of the Women are pulling double duty on the Women’s WQS, with Rebecca Woods (AUS), Jessi Miley-Dyer (AUS), Rosanne Hodge (NZL), Jacqueline Silva (BRA) and Silvana Lima (BRA) all just a big win from double qualifying.  Given this situation, the top 6 from the Women’s WQS may very well extend to the top 10, allowing for the qualification of Sally Fitzgibbons, who is currently a lock in with her huge lead in points; Paige Hareb (NZL), who is sitting at number 5 on the WQS; Bruna Schmitz (BRA), current number 6 on the WQS and girlfriend to Jeremy Flores (FRA); Alana Blanchard (HAW), currently number 8 on the WQS; and Laurina McGrath (AUS), number 9 on the WQS.  With only one contest left on the Women’s WQS, the Reef Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa, which kicks off a little later this week, more movement is possible within the Women’s WQS top 6.

The current Women’s WQS top 10:

1 Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) 9695

2 Rebecca Woods (AUS) 7855

3 Jessi Miley-Dyer (AUS) 7520

4 Rosanne Hodge (ZAF) 7415

5 Paige Hareb (NZL) 7285

6 Bruna Schmitz (BRA) 6925

7 Jacqueline Silva (BRA) 6845

8 Alana Blanchard (HAW) 6695

9 Laurina McGrath (AUS) 6645

10 Silvana Lima (BRA) 6415

Tune in this week as the last Women’s WQS event of the season kicks off at Haleiwa on Wednesday.
