The ASP has just released its 2009 event schedules for the various tours. Starting with the 2009 World Tour, we’re seeing a few significant changes and a few less significant changes. For starters, the prize pool for each event is being bumped up by $20,000 per event, going from $320,000 to $340,000 per event. Overall, there will be a total of 10 events in 2009, down from 11 in 2008. The Fiji event at Tavarua is being abandoned for 2009. While no reason has been given for Fiji’s absence from the 2009 lineup, political instability has affected the scheduling of the contest in the past. We’re sure to hear the reasoning over the next few days. Another interesting change was the reshuffling of the Hang Loose Santa Catarina Pro from late October to late June. According to the powers that be, this change will put the contest in Santa Catarina’s prime winter wave window, and will also make for an easy trip to South Africa for the following event. One can only wonder if the lack of interest in this year’s Brazilian contest had any impact on the date switch. Frontloading a contest in Brazil will also ensure a solid showing at the event. One of the final changes of interest is the Mundaka event and the Rip Curl Somewhere event. With just two days of travel between the events (including flights, driving time and time to settle into hotels), it can only be assumed that we might see an event in Europe or North Africa. Iceland would be my dream venue, but I’m thinking Portugal, Ireland, Morocco, Madeira, Azores or the Canaries are more likely. All in all, the ASP seems ready to put on another amazing year on the “dream tour”. 2009 Schedule

just suggesting a comment. if planned correctly im sure a epic wave can be found here along the south coast of south africa… i no this spot me and my friends have been surfing and ever since we had that cyclone here two years ago this wave always produces an amazinf ride…. almost like J-Bay! if not better some days….
