Billabong ASP World Junior Championship - Girl’s Junior winner crowned

It’s Wednesday morning in Sydney, Australia, and the Boy’s Junior Champion is just a few hours away from being crowned.  Tuesday morning saw the grand finale of the Girl’s Junior competition, with the win going to 17 year old French surfer, Pauline Ado.  Pauline’s win was history in the making, with her taking the honor of being the first non-Aussie to win the event.  Coming in an impressive second place was our beloved 18 year old Hawaiian sweetheart, Bethany Hamilton, who lost by less than one point in a closely contested heat.

Pauline Ado fought her way to victory from the first Round, where she topped Sage Erickson (USA) and Nikita Robb (ZAF).  Her first Round win put her right into Round 3, where she handily defeated Sayuri Hashimoto of Japan.  Next she dominated her Quarterfinal heat against Airini Mason of New Zealand, winning her way into the Semifinals, where she defeated American, Courtney Conlogue.

Bethany Hamilton took an equally impressive route to runner-up, taking second in her Round 1 heat to Alizee Arnaud (FRA), and topping Tyler Wright (AUS).  In Round 3, she took down American, Sage Erickson, pitting her against Laura Enever of Australia in the Quarterfinals.  Bethany dominated the heat, leading to a Semifinals berth against fellow Hawaiian, Leila Hurst.

Congratulations to Pauline Ado and Bethany Hamilton!
