Billabong Pro Teahupoo - Parko out, Slater falls again but logs the year’s sickest turn

After more lay days than this addict can take without going crazy, the Billabong Pro Teahupoo finally resumed competition on Monday. With a three foot swell in the water and waves expectedly on the rise, the decision was made to wrap up Round 2 and jump into Round 3.

Let’s jump to the day’s highlights:

Current tour frontrunner, Joel Parkinson (AUS) posted a convincing victory over local wildcard, Heiarii Williams (PYF) in Round 2, but was knocked out in the next round by Taylor Knox (USA), who comboed the Aussie who would be king.

Kelly Slater also fell on Monday. He turned heads with the top turn to top all top turns, which is easily the sickest turn of the season to date. Unfortunately, he couldn’t seal the deal and took home yet another equal 17th in the same heat after being outscored by the best Basque, Aritz Aranburu.

World Champ wildcard, Andy Irons (HAW) knocked out last year’s number two in the world, Bede Durbidge (AUS) in their Round 2 heat.

Mick Fanning snuck by fellow Aussie, Ben Dunn with a very last second near perfect ride.

Other Round 2 highlights - Taylor Knox (USA) snuck by Kai Otton (AUS); Bobby Martinez (USA) took out Dayyan Neve (AUS) in a low scoring exchange; high ranking Brazilian, Adriano de Souza took down Hawaiian rookie, Dustin Barca; Jordy Smith (ZAF) topped Heitor Alves in a high scoring heat; Damien Hobgood (USA) comboed Dean Morrison (AUS); and Tom Whitaker (AUS) comboed Tim Boal (FRA).

Round 3 saw CJ Hobgood (USA) comboing Jay Thompson (AUS), Taj Burrow (AUS) beating out Kieren Perrow (AUS), and Mick Campbell (AUS) continuing his charge by comboing fellow Aussie, Josh Kerr.
