The “Dream Tour” has jumped back into action this week at the Billabong Pro Teahupoo. Six days into the event, the contest has managed to crawl through Round 1 and the first 6 heats of Round 2, before calling yet another lay day on Thursday.
Let’s take a look at the winners and losers so far –
The first heat of the event also proved the most lackluster with Timmy Reyes (USA) barely edging out Miky Picon (FRA) with a total heat score of 3.90 out of 20. Timmy was then edged out in Round 2 with a tied heat against Kieren Perrow. Both surfers finished with an 11.50 out of 20, but Perrow was given the nod to advance with the higher single wave score.
Ben Dunn (AUS) took out fellow Aussie Chris Davidson; Dean Morrison (AUS) comboed rookie Nathaniel Curran (USA); and Phillip MacDonald (AUS) took out Chris Ward (USA) before being comboed and pounded by CJ Hobgood in Round 2, where he only finished with a 0.77 out of 20.
DailyStoke favorite Marlon Lipke (DEU) showed amazing promise in his first round matchup with Drew Courtney (AUS), leaving him in a combo situation. Unfortunately for Marlon, the tables were turned on him in his second round heat, where Taj Burrow (AUS) left him in a combo situation.
Aritz Aranburu (EUK) took out fan favorite Dane Reynolds (USA); Dayyan Neve edged out wildcard, Pat Gudauskas (USA); local wildcard Heiarii Williams (PYF) comboed Hawaiian rookie, Kekoa Bacalso; Kai Otton (AUS) fought off last year’s champion, event wildcard, Bruno Santos (BRA); and Andy Irons (HAW) came out of his semi-retirement to seriously combo Jihad Khodr (BRA).
Dustin Barca (HAW) took down David Weare (ZAF); Tim Boal (FRA) barely edged out Nic Muscroft (AUS); and Heitor Alves (BRA) posted a convincing win over Tahitian rookie, Michel Bourez.
Jay Thompson (AUS) destroyed Greg Emslie (ZAF) in Round 1, before taking down top seed, Jeremy Flores (FRA) in Round 2.
Josh Kerr posted a solid win over Tiago Pires (PRT) in Round 1, then snuck by one of the event favorites, Fred Patacchia in Round 2, while Mick Campbell (AUS) obliterated Roy Powers (HAW) in Round 1, before edging out fellow Aussie, Ace Buchan in Round 2.
