Countdown to Trestles
It’s coming! Just about a week and a half to go ’til the only World Tour contest held in the continental United States, Boost Mobile Pro presented by Hurley at Trestles. Is there a more playful, rippable wave anywhere? Can’t wait to see the best of the best come to shine in this skatepark of a surfspot. Highlights from last year included Kelly Slater taking the trophy, and the then wildcards, Jordy Smith and Dane Reynolds giant killing. They were the only two guys on earth last year who made the then unstoppable Mick Fanning look ridiculous, as he floundered while trying to do even simple punts to match their new school aerial wizardry. Slater was the only one who could keep up with, and even top Jordy and Dane. Kind of interesting how well they did as wildcards in that contest, with nothing at stake. Wondering how they’ll perform this year as both are sitting in the back half of the rankings with only 5 contests left to go. Wondering if they’ll just “surf it safe” with three-to-the-beach. In any event, I predict a good show. Expect standout performances from Kelly Slater, Taj Burrow, Jeremy Flores, Dane Reynolds, Jordy Smith, Bobby Martinez, Adriano De Souza and Chris Ward. Others will put in top notch performances as well, but these are the guys I’d put my money on for big results in this contest. September can’t come soon enough!
